A Guide to Stoicism
Those who wish to be free must submit to philosophy, said the ancient philosophers. Yet today, after so many centuries since Socrates, philosophy has become a sort of taboo.
But what does philosophy mean? To put simply, it means pursuit of wisdom; to be a philosopher is to seek wisdom, truth.
And the ancient thinkers were not concerned with the truth only for the sake of it, they were more interested in making life better.
They realized that life is not smooth, but full of suffering and hard blows of fate. At times, it can become almost a burden. The solution? Philosophy. Wisdom. For “even the beginnings of wisdom make life bearable.” (Seneca)
And Stoicism is one of many ancient philosophies. It can help us manage our emotions, become happier and cheerful, face obstacles with a calm spirit, and deal with the stress of crazed modern lives.
In short, Stoicism can help us cope with life.
But what is Stoicism, and how exactly do you practice it?
This guide is the answer.

Sometimes, even a simple reminder is enough to help you get back on track. The Stoics had the practice to repeat short phrases to help clear the mind and to focus on what’s important.
We are constantly staring at screens, so what if whenever you look at the screen there is a reminder for you to stop worrying, or to focus on what’s essential, or to calm down, or that your time is limited?
Such a simple thing can be very effective at times.
With this guide, you’ll get 30 wallpapers from Seneca, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius (10 from each) for both mobile and desktop.
✍ Author & Goal
My name is Pooran, and I am the creator of StoaDaily, a network dedicated to Stoic philosophy. It all began when I first came across Stoicism and gradually started studying and practicing it.
Although I learned many things and found them helpful, as I practiced them, one thing about the whole process made me uneasy.
Which was that the original sources—Seneca’s Moral Letters, Epictetus’ Discourses, and Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, etc.—were not structured; they were collections of notes, lectures, and letters on random topics. As for the modern books, I came across only one or two of them that are for everyone to read and really explain what Stoicism is.
My goal, however, is different. It is to provide a simple, short, structured guide to Stoic philosophy for beginners. That is why a significant portion of Stoicism, Here & Now (i.e., Part 1) is dedicated to the structure behind Stoicism.
🤔 Who is this for?
Although anyone can benefit from this, it is especially for beginners who are looking for a simple, systematic guide to Stoicism, that they can apply right away.
